Mental health Care Tip of the month: How this 5-minute meditation can help calm your anxiety

I’ve dealt with anxiety & depression for over 12 years now. I’m at a point where instead of seeing myself as 12 Years A Sad B*tch, I’m seeing myself as an undefeated warrior. Every month I will be sharing holistic & metaphysical tips to aid with mental health. When anxiety & bouts of depression hit, it makes it really hard to do anything. I don’t have the motivation to do anything besides eat & sleep. Even simple conversations with people can be stressful. This month, I want to share this 5 minute meditation by Dr. Pillai. He is a spiritual scientist, academic scholar & philanthropist, among other things. This simple chanting meditation can be done anywhere in any setting with some headphones. It comes in handy when your mind is scattered & you cannot relax or focus. It helps by balancing & opening your chakras. The phrase “Om Namah Shivaya” is broken down into what Dr. Pillai calls “absolute sounds”. The phrase translates to “universal consciousness is one” and/or “I offer to Shiva a respectful invocation of His Name”, depending on the Hindu tradition. You can empower this meditation even further by incorporating healing crystals such as selenite, amethyst, or black tourmaline to help clear evasive energies that cause you anxiety & depression. For about 3-4 months I had anxiety attacks every single morning after getting out of bed. This meditation was my go-to and helped to calm my anxiety. I’ve included links to both Dr. Pillai’s explanation & breakdown of the sounds, as well as the link to the meditation. Remember, we are not sick, we are not crazy, we are not weak. We are warriors. Stay strong brujitas & brujitos. Asé.
